A marina shaped by yacht building and practical seamanship

Niro Petersen Marina is not an anonymous holiday harbour. It developed alongside the Flensburg manufacturer NIRO Petersen, whose work is rooted in stainless-steel fittings and individual equipment for sailing yachts, motor yachts and large custom yachts.

The company was founded by Gerd Johannes Petersen on 1 April 1965 as Vorrichtungsbau Petersen. His specialism in stainless steel earned him the nickname ‘Gerd-Niro’, which later became part of both his legal name and the NIRO Petersen company identity.

In 1985 the business moved to the former sea-border abattoir site on Flensburg harbour. The first pontoons of the NIRO Petersen yacht harbour and winter-storage facilities were developed as the site expanded. This industrial and maritime history still defines the atmosphere today: boats are berthed, handed over, serviced and prepared here rather than merely displayed.

The marina is currently used by private berth holders, marine businesses and MOLA Yachting. MOLA operates its Flensburg charter activities from the site, making the marina the regular handover point for Sailvero yachts Lissy IV and Martha-Marie.

A working harbour with real yacht expertise, short city distances and a sheltered start into Flensburg Fjord.

Facilities for crews

The marina provides the essential infrastructure for arrival, handover and the first night on board. Exact access and opening arrangements may vary with the charter handover.

Sanitary facilities

Toilets and showers are available for marina and charter guests.

Laundry

A washing machine is available, useful for crews combining consecutive weeks or arriving after a longer journey.

Provisioning nearby

An EDEKA supermarket is within walking distance and is the most convenient option for the main provisioning run before departure.

Yacht service environment

The site retains the character of an active marine-service location, with NIRO Petersen’s yacht-equipment heritage and related technical activity around the harbour.

Charter handover

MOLA Yachting uses the marina for yacht preparation, guest reception and handover. Crews should follow the booking documents for the precise meeting point and access instructions.

Sheltered start

The inner fjord gives crews time to settle into the yacht, check systems and organise roles before reaching more exposed water.

Arrival and local logistics

Niro Petersen Marina is located at Brauereiweg 16 on the western side of Flensburg harbour. The full address for arrival planning is Niro Petersen Marina, Brauereiweg 16, 24939 Flensburg, Germany.

Arrival by car

Use Brauereiweg 16, 24939 Flensburg, Germany for road navigation to Niro Petersen Marina. Parking, barrier access and unloading arrangements should be confirmed from the current MOLA handover information because operational areas may be in use.

Arrival by rail

Flensburg railway station is best connected to the marina by local taxi. This is more practical with sailing bags and provisions than completing the final leg on foot.

Taxi transfer

A taxi is the practical final leg from Flensburg railway station or from nearby accommodation. Crews should arrange enough luggage space for sailing bags and provision boxes rather than relying on a short walk with heavy equipment.

Provisioning

The nearby EDEKA can be reached on foot. For a large crew shop, collect the yacht first, confirm available storage and then buy chilled and bulky items.

Loading and unloading

Plan the first hour around unloading, checking inventory, assigning cabins and stowing provisions before moving the car or leaving the handover area.

Arrival by private aircraft

Flensburg-Schäferhaus Airport (EDXF) is the closest private-aircraft option. From the airfield, the practical final leg to Niro Petersen Marina is by taxi or hire car.

Final-day planning

Return into Flensburg Fjord with sufficient margin for refuelling, packing, technical reporting and the agreed yacht return procedure.

From handover to the first proper sailing day

The route is a planning frame, not a fixed itinerary. Weather, berth availability, crew experience and yacht size decide the final week.

Easy first evening: remain in the fjord

After a late handover, use the sheltered inner fjord or remain alongside rather than forcing distance into the first day.

First Danish objective: Sønderborg or Als

With an early start and suitable weather, the route towards Sønderborg creates a clear first cross-border leg.

One-week focus: Danish South Sea

Ærø, Lyø, Faaborg and the waters around Als support varied sailing without requiring a long passage every day.

Alternative: the Schlei

Depending on wind direction and crew priorities, the Schlei offers a contrasting route with protected waters and attractive harbour stops.

For stronger crews

Longer Baltic legs are possible, but the route should be chosen for the actual forecast rather than to satisfy an ambitious pre-planned mileage target.

Start your Baltic week in Flensburg

Choose the yacht that suits the crew, then plan the first leg around handover time, wind and the level of ambition for the week.
